Crisis Companionship

Crisis Companionship™ offers one-on-one, non-clinical support for individuals facing sudden personal or professional collapse.Designed to work alongside therapists, legal advisors, and care teams, it offers steady presence, practical guidance, and structured support when life feels unrecognizable—and traditional systems alone aren't enough.

Our Work

The New Crossings Company is reimagining what the future can look like after life-altering disruption. We work at the intersection of personal crisis and profound transformation—creating new ways for people to rebuild with dignity, purpose, and integrity. From one-on-one support to broader cultural change, our work begins in life's hardest moments and helps shape what comes next.

What is Crisis Companionship?

When life unravels—whether through public exposure, professional destruction, or heartbreaking personal loss—the depth of despair can feel inescapable. While therapy, legal counsel, and spiritual care are essential, those in acute crisis are often paralyzed by fear, consumed by shame, and too disoriented to engage those systems—or to find meaningful reasons to keep going.Crisis Companionship exists to address this urgent gap in care, offering immediate, grounded support that honors both the severity of living through crisis and the dignity of those experiencing it. We provide structured presence and practical guidance informed by the lived experience of devastation and renewal. This is not crisis PR. It is not image repair. This is human-centered companionship focused on survival and stabilization first, followed by authentic rebuilding as each client grows stronger.

Every story matters.
Your next chapter is waiting.

A Note From Chris

Every day, someone's world ends. The life they built, the person they thought they were, the future they counted on: gone in an instant. In those moments, despair takes hold, identity and purpose evaporate, and the capacity to keep going quickly fades.I know this because I lived it.But what if we began to see our lives as stories we're telling in real time—not defined by what we've lost, but by who we're becoming? Where our darkest chapters become sources of wisdom and hope for others. Where survival becomes service and pain gives way to meaning. The New Crossings Company was founded to provide a home for those who have experienced life-altering collapse—and to transform how society responds to those who have fallen, recognizing not just their wounds, but their potential. If you're here, something may have shattered. Life may feel impossible. But your story is still being written—and the next chapter belongs to you.

Frequently asked questions

If you're wondering what Crisis Companionship is or how it fits alongside other support, these answers are for you.If your question isn’t here, please reach out for a confidential consultation — we understand how difficult taking this step can be, and you don't have to figure it out alone.

General
How do I know if Crisis Companionship is right for me (or someone I care about)?

If life has come apart — whether privately or publicly — and traditional support feels overwhelming, unavailable, or too much to navigate alone, Crisis Companionship may be a meaningful fit for you, your client, or loved one. Our initial consultation will help determine if this approach is appropriate.

Who developed Crisis Companionship and why?

Crisis Companionship was developed by New Crossing's founder Chris Herzberger, a former entertainment industry executive. After navigating the gap between crisis and recovery, he developed this model based on what he needed most but couldn't find — structured, non-clinical support from someone who had lived it.

How quickly can support begin?

Initial consultations are typically available within 24–48 hours. Crisis doesn't wait for convenient timing, and neither do we. If it's urgent, tell us — we'll do our best to meet the moment.

How much does Crisis Companionship cost?

Investment varies depending on your situation. We offer a complimentary 30-minute consultation to assess alignment and discuss options. Our aim is to make support accessible without compromising integrity or care.

Do you only work with wealthy or famous people?

Absolutely not. While some clients are public figures, we work with people from all walks of life facing profound disruption. What matters is the depth of crisis, not your profile or bank account.

Can I reach out if no one knows what I'm going through?

Yes. Many clients are experiencing private collapse — internal devastation that hasn't become public. Your crisis doesn't need to be visible to others to warrant support. Private collapse can be just as overwhelming and isolating as public breakdown.

The Process
Is this therapy, counseling, or legal advice?

No. Crisis Companionship is non-clinical support. We don't provide therapy, counseling, psychological treatment, or legal advice. We offer structured guidance, strategic support, and practical companionship during acute disruption and work alongside your therapist, attorney, or other licensed professionals — never instead of them.

I'm already in therapy — would this be redundant?

Not at all. We complement therapeutic work and encourage it. While therapy focuses on clinical treatment and emotional processing, we provide immediate stabilization, strategic guidance, and help managing the practical demands of crisis. We often coordinate with therapists — with your permission — to ensure integrated care.

What makes this different from crisis intervention or case management?

Crisis intervention handles immediate safety and stabilization. Case management coordinates services and resources. Crisis Companionship meets people in the fog between. We help our clients connect to care, make urgent decisions, and begin moving forward when the usual systems require additional support.

What actually happens during a session?

Sessions are conversational but structured — focused on what's most urgent or disorienting. That might mean processing events, making decisions, coordinating care, or simply finding your footing. We may work through targeted exercises, set short-term goals, or use curated tools from the New Crossings framework — including guided journals, reflection prompts, and strategic worksheets designed to support meaning-making, emotional clarity, and the early visioning of life after collapse. Above all, it's a place to feel what you're feeling — anger, grief, shame, hope — in the presence of someone who won't rush to "fix" you, but will stand with you as you move through it.

What is the time commitment?

Support duration is entirely based on your needs. You're in control of the pace and duration. Some clients engage briefly during acute crisis; others stay connected for months as they rebuild. There are no packages, minimums, or predetermined timelines. We adjust support as your needs evolve.

What's the age requirement for Crisis Companionship?

Crisis Companionship is available to adults 18 years and older. For younger individuals in crisis, we recommend contacting appropriate clinical, educational, or family support resources designed specifically for that age group.

Working Together
What if I caused the collapse? Will you still work with me?

Absolutely. Some clients are facing consequences of their own actions, others circumstances beyond their control. Both deserve dignified support. We hold space for accountability without shame, and movement without performance. We believe everyone deserves compassionate care during collapse — regardless of how they arrived there.

What if I'm not ready to talk about what happened?

Then we start somewhere else. You'll never be pushed to share details before you're ready. We can focus on immediate stabilization, practical decisions, or just getting through each day. Your readiness leads — we adapt to where you are in the process.

Is Crisis Companionship only for people who are ready to rebuild?

Many people come to us long before they're ready to think about rebuilding or meaning. Sometimes the first goal is simply: survive the week. Show up. Feel something. Breathe. We honor that. There's no pressure to transform. The work begins wherever you are.

Do you work with people experiencing addiction or early recovery?

Yes. Addiction and recovery are deeply woven into many of the crises we hold space for, including both chemical and behavioral. Whether you're actively using, newly sober, or navigating long-term recovery, we meet you without judgment, pressure, or clinical labels. Our work is informed by a trauma-aware understanding of addiction — not as moral failure, but as a survival strategy that has outlived its usefulness. Recovery often holds some of the deepest meaning-making there is, and we can align our work to support that journey — including helping you stay tethered to care teams and sponsors, build structure, and reclaim safety without shame.

Is this available remotely/outside the U.S.?

Yes. Crisis Companionship is available remotely to all clients via secure, HIPAA-compliant video and phone platforms. We can also arrange in-person support when geographically feasible and appropriate.

Privacy & Coordination
How is confidentiality handled?

We maintain absolute discretion through HIPAA-compliant platforms, encrypted communications, and strict protocols designed for high-profile clients. While this relationship is not protected by attorney–client or therapist–client privilege, we treat all conversations as private and handle them with care. We will discuss the boundaries of confidentiality clearly in our first session.

Do you take my health insurance?

Crisis Companionship is private pay only. We understand this is a consideration during difficult times, which is why we offer flexible options and always begin with a complimentary consultation to ensure the right fit.

What if my situation involves legal issues?

We understand that legal issues add intense stress to an already overwhelming situation. We work alongside your legal counsel, providing support for the emotional and practical weight while your attorney handles strategy. Having someone who understands both the legal pressures and human cost can make an enormous difference. All communications remain confidential within legal limits.

What if I don't want anyone to know I'm doing this?

That's completely okay. Many people seek Crisis Companionship precisely because they're not ready — or willing — to talk about what they're going through with others. This work doesn't require public explanation or approval. If and when you do want to share, we can help you find language that feels safe. Your story belongs to you.

come as you are

Crisis can make you feel like you have to hold it together for everyone else, even when you're falling apart inside. And we understand that some days, just admitting you need help feels impossible. At New Crossings, you don't have to deny your feelings, minimize your pain, or pretend you're stronger than you are. This difficult moment does not define you—it makes you human. And humans weren't meant to rebuild alone.
